Yakshagana
is a classical folk art. Actors wear costumes and
enact the various roles. Traditionally, Yakshaganas
would go on all night. It is sometimes simply called
as Aataa in both Kannada and Tulu (meaning play).
Yaksha-gana literally means the song (gana) of a
Yaksha.
Kambala
is a traditional buffalo race. The 'track' used
for Kambala is a paddy field filled with slush.
The contest generally takes place between two pairs
of buffaloes, controlled by a whip-lashing farmer.
Kambala today has become an organised, professional
sports.
Neer
dosa is a dish prepared from rice. Itis
a unique dish of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi
district . Neer means water in Tulu and Kannada.
Neer Dosa is eaten with chutney and/or sambar and
sometimes with jaggery mixed with grated coconut.
Kori
rotti is a popular Mangalorean dish, a
combination of red chili-based chicken curry and
crispy crackling dry bread made from rice flakes.
Kori rotti is a traditional dish, served at weddings,
parties and special occasions.
